Megan Jordan

  • Patti Grace Smith Fellow, Class of 2021

  • The University of Alabama in Huntsville , Aerospace Engineering, ‘23

  • Host Institution: Hermeus

Megan is a third year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Originally from Mobile, Al, Megan moved to Huntsville to pursue her love of space exploration. Growing up, she always had a love for science and engineering but wasn’t aware that aerospace was a discipline she could pursue. This changed with her acceptance into the Student Introduction to Engineering (S.I.T.E.) program at the University of Alabama during her sophomore year of high school. During S.I.T.E. She worked on a variety of engineering projects, toured labs and saw a live wind tunnel demonstration and there her love of aerospace grew. At her time at UAH, Megan has joined a variety of organizations outside of her studies. She has acted as Vice President of the Space Hardware Club which provides hands-on engineering experiences for students outside of the classroom. During her time as Vice-President she hosted a variety of events in collaboration with organizations like Society of Women Engineers and National Society of Black Engineers. She now remains an active member of the club volunteering in the outreach program. Her most recent endeavor includes presenting and volunteering with her peers at local middle schools to prepare kids for an upcoming radio contact with the International Space Station. Aside from Space Hardware Club, Megan has worked as a tutor for the Huntsville Inner Center learning center and has volunteered at different local organizations such as Manna House which she hopes to continue post-covid. As a fellow Megan interned at Hermeus Corporation, a hypersonic aircraft company based in Atlanta, Georgia. There she worked on the Structures Team doing early-stage vehicle design for the Hermeus’ demonstrator aircraft. Megan has also completed an engineering internship at Northrop Grumman and is now working as an undergraduate researcher with MESMER Research Group at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Aside from her work she was recognized as a 2021 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Diversity Scholar. She has served on the selection committee and as a recruiting coordinator for the PGSF and is excited to continue volunteering. As for what’s next for Megan, she hopes to continue progressing in her aerospace career through sister fellowships to the PGSF and plans to pursue graduate school after graduation in the fall of 2023.

Fun Fact:

When I was little, I would swim to the bottom of the pool because I always thought the Bikini Bottom was a real place! ... I'm still disappointed.
